It’s graduation time in America. I remember my graduation like it was yesterday…give or take ten or twenty years. I also remember my commencement speaker. Such a powerful speech that still sticks with me today. I’m often reminded of that speech about…

give me a sec…

about….leadership! I’m sure there was something in there about leadership. I’m also 65% sure there was something in there about leaving my mark on society. I have no doubt that there was a cool Billy Joel or Don Henley quote finishing up the commencement speech given by….

give me a minute….given by….

Moving on.

Speaking of a commencement address, turns out Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-North Dakota gave a doozie of a speech to the University of Mary. I feel like I’m missing the “land” at the end of Mary. It’s just University of Mary. I was reading the Huffington Post and this story caught my attention.

See, Rep. Kevin Cramer decided not to go the tradition route of pumping up the new grads with a speech about leadership and making a mark on society, he thought he would spice things up with a real upper speech about mass murders, moral decay and abortion! Let’s give a big graduation party foul to Rep. Cramer. Way to bum every out dude.

It’s one thing to suck all the joy out of our new grads as you send them out into the world, but your depressing one/two punch doesn’t even make sense.

From Rep. Cramer’s speech,

“Forty years ago, the United States Supreme Court sanctioned abortion on demand,” he said in his speech at the University of Mary on May 4. “And we wonder why our culture sees school shootings so often.”

What the? Alex, I’ll take massive overreach resulting in nonsense for $100.

I would have changed this up slightly Rep. Cramer. How about this..

“Forty years ago, the United States Supreme Court sanction abortion on demand (as well as movies on demand – shout out to Time Warner). It’s because of this that you were a planned and wanted pregnancy. Go thank your parents, make a lot of money so that you can afford to put them up in a wonderful retirement home. Congratulations Graduates of 2013! Now let’s party!

See its has a slightly more positive and uplifting tone. Not quite so much Debbie Downer.

You said it was no wonder the Huffington Post criticized your speech since it was a liberal blog. Well this blog also tends to lean-to the left. So much so that sometimes I have been known to fall over when writing it. You said you “were trying to convey a message centered on speaking the truth about today’s culture.”

When it comes to graduates, they have their whole lives to figure out the truth about life. No need to feel obligated in a commencement speech to provide them with harsh truths. Next time focus on inspirational messages. They are going to need all the inspiration they can get to make it through the hash reality this nation is going to give them.

Then again, I’m just a blog writer who leans to the left and tries not to fall over. What do I know?

I think it’s a tad of an understatement that Obama is having a pretty crappy week. The problem is that these scandals are going to do some damage and it isn’t just contained to the Obama presidency. I can hear the headlines for the next campaign -

“Democrats targeted Conservatives! Make sure your (insert issue – taxes, guns, soldiers) are safe. Vote Republican!”

The one thing I always counted on was, provided enough rope, the Conservatives always managed to hang themselves. Turns out Democrats are the one using the rope on ourselves.

The top 5 scandals that have me going…seriously? Where is the hope Obama?

5. IRS targeting Tea Party groups. This is going to get B-A-D. The worst part is I see liberal groups responding, “they did it during the Reagan administration.” Sorry guys that was 30 years ago. That response is also BS. It’s WRONG no matter how much I can’t stand the Tea Party!

4. Department of Justice seizes journalists’ records. Even I know that journalists and the Obama administration have never had a love fest. Looks like things got even colder in this love fest. How about turning that temp frigid.

3. The gun control debate that never really was. All that talk about Sandy Hook never really amounted to anything. All of your supporters were hyped up for real change and all we got was a lot of talk. Forget about any real hope.

2. CIA caught in Russia for spying. The cold war erupts again in Russia. Might want to ask yourself WWRD? (What would Reagan do)

1. Finally Benghazi – the scandal that never was that won’t go away.

Please President Obama show this loyal Democrat some hope and if possible some change. Start with yourself and your administration. Don’t blow it for all future Democrats. Our next campaign cycle depends on it.

Dear Charlie,

I know you are surprised to hear from me. It’s been a long time. Snoopy, now known as Snoopdog, taught me how to type. I’ve been tweeting a lot lately. Not twitter tweeting, but bird tweeting. I heard it around town that you got yourself in some trouble old friend.

Rumor has it from the local bird bath that you were busted for threatening your girlfriend and her son if she didn’t give back your car and your dog. If there is anything I can say about you, you always loved your dogs. I’ll admit, it was always a tad bit creepy if you ask me. Then again I did dress up with Snoopy on Thanksgiving with colonial hats and muskets so who am I to judge creepy?

Anyway, I also heard you threatened your girlfriend’s plastic surgeon and said you would “break her in half”. All of this over breast implants. Are you still hanging with Violette, that girl you met in Paris? If memory serves, she was a little flat upstairs.

I also heard you hit the bottle pretty hard. I think we all have man. Those early years were good to all of us. Now things have changed and not for the better. Linus is playing piano in some dive bar in Reno. Peppermint Patty named a drink after herself. Now she just gets blitzed and yells, “drink me bitches” around every bar in San Fran. I landed in a bird bath that some drunk senior poured vodka into one day and now I just go from house to house looking for another drunk high. We are all a mess dude. You just took it one sorry step too far. Now you are headed for the slammer and all without your beloved dog.

The only two that ended up half way normal are Snoopdog and Lucy. Snoop is up in the Space Station helping to fix that leak and Lucy is running a successful law practice in Manhattan. I hear that Lucy may give Hillary a run for her money in the next election.

Hey maybe you can sue Lucy for all that head trauma she caused you by pulling that football out every time you went to kick it? That’s got to be worth something. Maybe Snoopdog can represent you when he’s back from the Space Station?

Look me up when you get out of the slammer. I’m the only bird that can’t fly above the tree tops and can type an open letter.

Take care man,

Woodstock

Mike Jeffries, CEO of Ambercrombie or as I like to call him CED (Chief Executive Douchebag), has decided to work against this nation’s anti-bullying campaign and only cater to the “beautiful people” at his nation’s t-shirts and jeans retailer.

Ambercrombie doesn’t sell sizes over a 10 for females and only sells sizes of XL and XXL to males to cater to high school athletes. He is specifically targeting the “cool kids”.

Since most Americans haven’t been in an Ambercrombie and Fitch store recently, as evident by their tanking sales figures, I’ll catch you up to speed on some of the stores interesting highlights:

They call their sales people “models”.

They have been in hot water before for offensive t-shirts that make fun of Asians.

They sold string bikinis to young girls.

They have been called out for their lack of diversity.

So I checked out their website to see what’s new with the retailer and the “cool kids”. In fact, I spent A LOT of time checking out, I mean researching, the pictures of the males to be sure I knew what I was talking about for this blog post.

Anyway, a few interesting things:

The “Diversity” link on their website was broken. This is no joke.

I love this picture of their campus. They describe it as, “beautiful as it is functional.” Ah yes..I guess they were going for a third world country primary school look.

Now Ambercrombie has right to be as exclusive as they want. Here’s what Mark is missing – part of being cool is not having to announce it to the world. People want to be like you, because you have self-confidence, not because you are constantly announcing how cool you are. That is exactly what makes you uncool.

A fabulous gay friend of mine once described the Ambercrombie and Fitch catalog as the gay man’s masturbation bible. Masturbation is a solo act. Soon Ambercrombie and Mark will also be a party for one. I predict Ambercrombie will soon go out of business.

For all of your “marketing genius” Mike, your days are numbered. Just like high school, those who try too hard can suddenly become uncool.

Dear Reese,

You probably don’t remember me. We met for a nanosecond at the Million Mom March back in the 90s. You were already a superstar. I was and still am…a nobody.

Seems we both have one thing in common. Nope we aren’t both blonde, although I was once blonde back in the early 90s (not a good look for me). We aren’t both sweet southern girls. We are both, “American Citizens” as I heard you exclaim on your dashcam police video. Yes, along with most of America, I’ve seen the TMZ video.

This all stems from a recent incident where your husband was pulled over in his Ferrar…I mean Ford Fusion. WAIT A MINUTE! A Ford Fusion? Honey, nothing against Ford Fusions, but you are a movie star…a multi-millionaire movie star. If you are going to pull the “do you know who I am?” card, it is a hell of a lot more impressive if you do it in something other than a Ford Fusion.

Anyhoo..where your husband was pulled over for driving in the wrong lane drunk.

In an effort to save your love, you jump out of the car against police orders and do a dramatic scene straight from one of your movies – EXCEPT your movies are more “feel good type” movies so this isn’t exactly right out of one of YOUR movies. This scene is more of the gritty crime drama movies like one of Angelina Jolie’s movies or maybe Jodie Foster’s movies – an action/adventure type movie. Mark Whalberg plays the handsome cop and Ethan Hawk plays your drunk husband – NOT that I’ve thought about this or anything. I play your cool best friend who comes and bails you out of jail. Moving on….

So you jump out of the car and pull the “do you know who I am?” card.

First – all people, like me, who are nobodies DREAM of a day when we can do that. We dream of a day when we can use that line to get into cool clubs, be seated first in restaurants, board planes first, get better service at snooty department stores, etc. etc.

Second, we love, love, love LOVE it when people like you are taught a lesson that sometimes in life nobody gives a damn who you are. We all have to follow the same rules.

Can’t wait to continue to watch your PR team attempt to clean up this mess.

Your new BFF,

Aimee

First an apology, I know I have been writing a new post almost every day. It’s 5:30 a.m. and I can’t sleep. See, the past week it’s been a trifecta of my issues all at once – G.C.G. I call it. Guns, Contraception and Gay Rights. It’s been the perfect storm hitting all at once.

Enough with my hot button topics already! If you ran into me these days you would say, “Girlfriend needs her beauty sleep.” I admittedly look a little rough. I blame current events and my new low carb diet.

Ok..we move on to the C of my G.C.G.

Contraception – A judge ruled that Emergency Contraception must be sold over-the-counter to females 15 years of age and older. I’m convinced he watched an episode of MTV’s Teen Moms before making this ruling. EC was only available to girls with a prescription prior to the ruling. The judge ruled that since EC was available to females under 17 with a prescription that the FDA was overreaching its bounds having EC available only with a prescription. The judge found the extra step unnecessary for minors with such a time sensitive product (EC has to be used within 3 days of unprotected sex).

As quick as I was throwing the confetti and pouring the drinks for my Emergency Contraception Celebration Party, the Justice Department issued a statement late yesterday that they were going to appeal the ruling.

Quick get the vacuum, party is over.

Obama, seriously?

From the Justice Department,

“The Court’s Order interferes with an thereby undermines the regulatory procedures governing FDA’s drug approval process. A drug approval decision involves scientific judgment as to whether statutory and regulatory factors are met that warrant deference to those charges with the statutory responsibility to make those decisions.”

Um..that’s a whole lot of lawyer speak. However, there has been no proven scientific evidence stating that females 17 years of age and younger shouldn’t take EC. In fact, EC can be given to females 17 years of age and younger WITH a prescription so what’s the difference? Females 17 years of age and younger can READ which is the only requirement to taking EC correctly.

Parents quick cover your eyes- 30% of 15 and 16 olds are having sex.

Now opponents of having EC available to minors are worried about serious effects which are (brace yourself)

Nausea

Headaches

They are also concerned that minors won’t understand that EC doesn’t protect against sexually transmitted diseases. This may be more of a shout out to stop states from cutting school funding so we can continue to improve our literacy rates. It says it doesn’t protect against STDs right on the box. Oh that reading thing…we can’t expect our teens to actually read since they are spending all that time having sex.

Raise a baby they didn’t intend on having we are fine with.

Read a box warning them about STDS…well that’s another story.

There are far more dangerous drugs on our drug store shelves that teens can get their hands on. This is nothing more than a political hot button topic that is hurting females.

Shame the Justice Department for attempting to overturn this important ruling.

Details: 5-year-old boy shootings and kills 2-year-old sister in Kentucky.

As I was reading the horrible details of this “accident” something caught my attention. This wasn’t some usual story about a gun left lying around by a parent or a parent cleaning the firearm and it going off. Oh no…this story is unusual because the owner of the gun was the 5-year-old boy.

Let that one sink in for a minute.

The 5-year-old boy received the Crickett rifle as a gift.

The little boy OWNED the gun.

I’m still trying to figure out what makes me want to lose all hope in humanity more…that this kid received a rifle as a gift or that they make rifles for children. We are talking about real rifles here people, not the rifles that shoot air bullets or BBs, but real rifles that kill animals or in this case sisters.

I went to the website to check it out. Crickett Firearms makes these little gems. They come in camo color for the boys and hot pink for the little girls. See the above picture. That is a little girl holding her rifle that can shoot REAL bullets.

See the gallery of these sweet children holding their rifles.

Retailers like Walmart and Cabela’s sell these rifles for designed for children. I researched the age limit for owning a rifle in America. What I found was that it is LEGAL for children to own rifles if they are gifted to them. That means children like this little 5-year-old who still believes that Santa comes down the chimney can receive a rifle capable of killing his sister and it’s perfectly legal. Merry Freakin’ Christmas!

I just can’t wrap my head around this. I think it’s one thing to go out hunting with dad and hold dad’s gun. It’s another thing to have a little child own their own gun with bullets. To me it’s the difference between letting little Johnny hold the steering wheel while you drive the car and letting little Johnny have the keys and take the car for a spin.

Having a six-year-old daughter, I can’ tell you she still believes in the tooth fairy, she still pretends her baby dolls are real and she sure as hell wouldn’t understand that if she shoots a gun that death is permanent.

To the parents of this 5-year-old who shot his sister – I say they should be arrested on murder charges. There was no accident here, it was just a matter of time.

Direct from the testimonial site of Crickett (now excuse me while I bash my head into the nearest wall):

“My wife told me to do something with my daughter after gymnastics today, she recommended going for hot chocolate or a donut. I thought, that’s not special, plus once you’ve consumed the item where does that leave you. Instead we bought a pink Crickett from my six year old daughter and wanted to say thanks for making quality affordable firearms for new shooters. The ‘girls’ option is especially appreciated because as scary as it sounds the color really helped get her excitet about it. Bethany says thanks too! She’ll be quite fashionalble at the Sportsman Club tomorrow.” Chris “I wanted to tell you about my daughter’s first gun. For Christmas 05′ My oldest kid,6,wanted Santa to bring her, her first real gun. When her teacher at school told the class to write a letter to Santa about what they really wanted for Christmans, she wrote “I want a rel gun my size”. The teacher said she couldn’t write that at school and had to write something else. When she told me and her mom about that I decided taht if i had to sell one of my guns to get her one I would..Luckally I didn’t have to sell any of mine to get Chris her gun. She is so responsible, and had proved it with a bb gun, that my wife and I went shopping a few days before Christmas…Our local gun store had just the perfect model in stock. Pink laminiated stock and stainless barrel. To see her face on Christmas morning after opening te wrapping paper was priceless. Out of the box she was a crack shot at 10-15 yeards, and just yesterday she bagged her first ground squirl at about 15 yards..thank you for such a great product that has brought so much fun and joy to my kid…and our family.”Michael “I just wanted to send in a photo of my daughter’s new Crickett rifle. I ordered it from Gander Mountain. It is a bull barrel thumbhole pink laminated stock model. I added a bipod and a 3.5x10x50 scope. It turned out to be a great little target gun for her. I enjoy shooting it too.”

Jason Collins came out as the first openly gay player in the NBA.

Female professional athletes commented, “Been there, done that.”

However, there are so many in this country that are supporting his decision.

There was one comment from an ESPN commentator that is getting a lot of attention. Chris Broussard, basketball analyst, responded to Jason Collin’s announcement,

“If you’re openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, not just homosexuality, (but) adultery, fornication, premarital sex between heterosexuals … I believe that’s walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ,” Broussard said. “I would not characterize that person as a Christian, because I don’t think the Bible would characterize them as a Christian.”

“Thank God for Broussard speaking honestly about how many people feel about homosexuality…wait a minute. Did he just dis heteros? What the?”

It suddenly dawned on very few that Broussard called people who play and most who watch the NBA a bunch of sinning whores who are damned to hell. This means that Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson are not Christian (both adulterers). And that my friends is all my basketball knowledge. (applause)

Maybe the “A” in NBA stands for Atheists?

Well since Broussard damned most of us to hell, we should move on…I mean everyone else to hell (Hi mom if you’re reading

This morning on a local radio show I heard the announcement being discussed as “no big deal”. It is nothing like Jackie Robinson and the integration of baseball the host said.

Who is to judge one significant trailblazer vs. another?

I’m not naive to think that that Collins was the first gay male athlete. There were others who came out after they were finished playing professional sports. It wasn’t like they finished playing sports and then decided to be gay. They just waited until they were done to announce it. I think we all know that the machismo attitude of players and fans is brutal. Having Collins come out will hopefully change that dynamic.

The most interesting thing to me about the announcement is to see the kind of impact it will have in the locker room and stands. Being black/Hispanic/Asian is something you can see. You may decided to change your words because you know a minority is in front of you (I said “may” for all of you skinheads out there). Being gay isn’t something you can see. Calling someone a fag/pussy/homo may become a whole different matter if the person is actually gay.

In this case Collins is proving to America that there are professional male athletes that are gay.

Trust me…as a Jew who has the last name of Patton, I know this to be true. 99.5% of the time people are decent and are not bigots. However there is that .5% of the time when people are assholes. They say horrible things and don’t realize that you are Jewish. You have a choice to make when that happens. Stay silent and nobody is the wiser or have the courage to speak up. I can honestly say that I haven’t always had the courage. It’s just so stinking hard. There is this feeling of why me? Why do I have to educate this idiot? What’s the point? And I’m a nobody. I’m not a professional athlete with the entire nation watching me play and with millions of young fans looking up to me.

If I haven’t had the courage every time I’ve heard someone make an anti-semetic remark not knowing there was a Jewish person in the room I have to stand back and say…

Jason Collins you are my hero. Your bravery and courage is remarkable.

For what it is worth, well done.

Dear Ms. Franklin:

I was reading the Huffington Post and came across your article, “30 things I hope to do after 30″. I love to read lists like this. I have made some lists like these in my life. Since you are the Senior Lifestyle Editor at the Huffington Post and you are just turning thirty, I was intrigued to see what other things you hope to do AFTER you turn thirty.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lori-fradkin/30-things-i-hope-to-do-after-30_b_3130951.html?utm_hp_ref=healthy-living&ir=Healthy%20Living

After reading your list, I felt like I needed to respond. I am 40ish (cough, cough) and nowhere near as important as you. In fact the likelihood that this letter will even find you is next to zero. I will admit that my responses stem mostly from deep seeded jealousy of your youth, your optimism and your position as Senior Lifestyle Editor for the Huffington Post. Now I can’t respond to everything on your list. Unlike you, I have kids, laundry piling up and a very serious case of ADD.

Here we go…

30 Things I Hope To Do After 301. Write a book. I don’t know if it will be the collection of essays I envisioned or a different type of book entirely. What I do know is that Helen Gurley Brown published “Sex and the Single Girl” at 40.

You and me sister!

2. Travel to Australia and New Zealand.

Been there. Went on a trip claiming I needed to “find myself”. Never “found myself” but the trip was a-ma-zing. Give me a ring on places to stay/things to do/etc.

3. Wear a leather dress. It’s stylish and sexy with a “Do you dare?” quality. It’s also not reserved for 20-somethings and Jennifer Aniston.

Really? Leather? Maybe it’s because I’m 40, but all I can think of is..oy the chafing. You know that line from Steel Magnolias, ”It looks like two pigs fighting under a blanket.” Maybe you are tall and gorgeous but for a Jewish girl who is short and curvy, leather ONLY belongs on my feet.

8. Read Dorothy Parker and Flannery O’Connor. I read “The Bell Jar” for the first time last year. [Pauses for gasps.] It was one of those books I knew I should have read before, and I would grow silent when my peers discussed it. Now that I’ve crossed Plath off my list, I’m ready to tackle the other iconic female writers I somehow missed.

I’m pausing, but not because I’m gasping. I’m pausing, because I’m trying to figure out what you’re talking about. Who the hell are your peers? My peers, all college educated, are discussing what Honey Boo Boo was doing on the last episode.

9. Get invited to a Big Event. The White House Correspondents’ dinner or the TIME 100 gala seem most likely, given that they bring together people from multiple industries, including my own, but just putting it out there that I would be absolutely fine with the Oscars.

OMG I’m waiting on my invitation to the White House Correspondence dinner also! Maybe we can sit together? I think it’s more likely is that I will be invited to a Bunco party or one of those screw-your-friends parties like Pampered Chef. Promise to send me pics from the TIME 100 gala.

10. Learn to put on makeup properly. Oh, sure, I do something to my eyes in the morning and there’s a loose powder that gets all over the bathroom sink, but really, I have no idea what I’m doing. I look at myself in the mirror later in the day, and all my work seems to have disappeared. I need to learn some actual techniques.

Psst…little secret – take yourself to Macy’s and go to any make-up counter. They will show you how to “properly” put on eye makeup. BTW – no woman has eye makeup on by the end of the day, unless you are Tammy Faye or a transvestite.

12. Become more financially independent. This is hard to admit, but here goes: I’m not there yet. I pay my rent and my bills, but look in my closet and you’ll see abundant evidence of the help I still get from my family. While I wouldn’t exactly go naked without their support, the specific items in my wardrobe would be different. (Well, not this one.) My parents and grandparents say they would take me shopping regardless of my salary, insisting they get joy out of the experience. But it still bothers me that I am not at a point where I could use my own credit card to buy the things I love.

Sweetie, you are the SENIOR Lifestyles Editor of Huffington Post. It’s not like you are a shift manager at the McDonalds. There is a difference between “help” and “gifts”. What the hell do you love exactly?

13. Have and raise children.

You do realize that most of this list, like all of the trips, are null and void once you have kids? Note my comments to follow.

14. Take a cross-country road trip. Though road trips are usually associated with college, there’s really no age limit. My fiancé has driven across the country twice and has been talking about doing it a third time. Whenever that happens, I plan to join him. I’d like to see the places I’ve only flown over in the past.

You aren’t going anywhere once you have little Isabelle and Jackson. If you do, you will become intimately familiar with every McDonalds along the all American interstate. Bring the hand sanitizer, because the McDonald’s playlands and McNuggets are in your future!

15. Take notes. Even the moments and details we swear we’ll never forget often fade in our memories. By typing things up as they happen, I’ll ensure that I have a record later on, both for myself and for my kids and grandkids.

Trust me, by the time you reach 40, you will be taking notes and leaving notes EVERYWHERE, because if you don’t you won’t be able to find things. It isn’t so that you can “reflect” on your life, it is because without them, you will not be able to find your keys, remember snacks for the soccer game, etc. Some call it early onset Alzheimers.

18. Run a half-marathon in a foreign country. While I will continue to do laps in Central Park, it would be thrilling to take in, say, London or Paris in this way. And I won’t pretend I’m not thinking of victory scones and chocolate croissants.

Unless you are going to strap little Madison and Noah to your back, you aren’t going anywhere once you have kiddos.

19. Learn to edit video. If my 75-year-old great-aunt can join Facebook and get an email account to keep in touch with her grandkids, I don’t think it’s too late for me to learn to make a mash-up or cut a clip. Video is the future. Time to step it up.

zzzz…sorry where was I?

21. Take a trip with my sister. She lives in Los Angeles and I’m in New York, and though our family is close as a whole, she and I get most of our updates about each other from our parents. I’d like to think that we might communicate more directly as we get older (and not just through Facebook and Instagram). Even a short vacation could be a good first step.

Awesome idea. You will remember after a few days why you stopped taking vacations with each other in the first place. My brother and I have taken a few vacations with our parents as adults. We almost always instantly start up our 30 year, ongoing argument of him saying,”Stop telling me what to do,” and I respond, “I’m not telling you what to do.” It’s amazing R&R.

24. Establish a skin-care regimen. My grandmother and I were at Bloomingdale’s last year when a saleswoman referred to her as my mother. I wasn’t surprised: She’s been telling me since I was little how important it is to take care of your skin, advice she got from her mother and follows dutifully. I, on the other hand, don’t really go beyond washing and moisturizing, despite the fact that I should apparently already have a system in place. Oops.

Once you have little Skylar and Jace, your skin care regimen may turn into taking a handful of Johnson and Johnson, soaping up your face while the bath water is running and sticking your face under the faucet.

27. Visit the South of France, the Greek isles and the Amalfi Coast. Do I really need to explain? Have you not seen photos?

Unless you are going to strap Moses and Apple to your back, you may accomplish this in the year 2035.

30. Finally feel like a grown-up.

Totally overrated.

See you at the White House Correspondents Dinner. I’ll be the one wearing the leather dress.

I suddenly felt a chill go up my spine Thursday alerting me that something was up. I remembered that chill. It was the same chill I had from the last election.

My senses were right. Sure enough Todd Akin was in the news again.

Speaking about his statement about “legitimiate rape” he said recently in an interview, “Of course,” Akin replied. “Of course you regret it. You think what it would have been like if I hadn’t done that.”

Ah..regret. I think we’ve all experienced it. For me, it’s currently in the form of my Match.com profile.

For Akin, it’s from his unfortunate statement. Not the belief mind you…just the statement.

Akin goes on.

“I misspoke one word in one sentence on one day, and all of a sudden, overnight, everybody decides, ‘Well, Akin can’t possibly win,’” he said in a separate interview hosted by Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, the Associated Press reported. “Well, I don’t agree with that.”

I have also ”misspoke” on MANY occasions so I don’t judge too harshly. You should see me when I have one too many cosmos. Talk about some serious misspeaking. I like to call it my “Akinisms”.

Oh hell, who am I kidding? When it comes to Todd Akin I judge very harshly. Even with my own tendency to have regrets and to put myself in positions where I misspoke one too many sentences in my life, there are a whole host of reasons why Todd Akin lost to Clare McCaskill. This sentence was a drop in the bucket.

Let’s take a walk down memory lane shall we?

Todd Akin compared Claire McCaskill to a dog.

In 2012, Akin was one of 24 to vote against the Training and Research for Autism Improvements Nationwide Act; 147 Republicans voted for it. AGOP press release described this as an effort to “advance training and education for autism service providers” so that “autistic children and adults can lead fuller, happier and healthier lives.”

Dude – who votes against kids with autism?

Akin wants a constitutional amendment declaring life begins at conception.

I could go on and on and on, but I think you get my point.

Regrets or not, it is game over for this cat.
